Hello. A great read. I’m saving walnuts. So we’ll see where it will lead. Maybe some wild grapes tomorrow. I’m interested in making natural colours. In my pottery days I used clay from our farm which turned into a glaze at stoneware temperatures.
I don’t have it near me but years ago I read about where colour comes from. I think it’s called Travels With My Paintbox by a British author. Looking forward to reading your letters on colour harvested from nature.
This is very, very inspiring! Your book, Make Ink is a bible of ink making and I decoured it cover to cover the minute I received it! A fellow Canadian living in England, near Oxford, and having lived in three African countries before this, I am influenced by the connection to nature shared by all of those cultures. Last year about this time during lockdown I experimented with ink making and posted daily using #inktober2020 and am now making crayons from soy wax and local soils. I am always amazed at the enthusiasm of my students, both children and teens, when using something from nature to make marks and colours on the paper. It is a very grounding experience and reunites us with nature. Much needed now more than ever. Looking forward to further inspiration and emails/posts from you as well as your book.
