Love the black walnut ink I made this year for the first time. We are lucky that there are quite a few trees around us.. I have gifted the ink to a few artist friends who send me pictures of what they are doing with it.

I am excited to have found a white walnut (butternut) tree behind my office this fall so planning try that out in a few months.

this piece makes me very happy. black walnut ink does amazing things especially with handmade paper. i had a 'vat' of black walnut sitting next to a vat of 'rust' for maybe 15-20 years. from time to time i used it as ink/dye liquor or moved it to a pot on the stove to simmer a few hours after adding new walnuts. i moved, and had to dump those vats out. that was quite painful and entirely appropriate; now in my new old farmhouse there are several black walnuts in the yard (one i cut down) and i've beaten the rodents to a few to begin another pot. we're having a mast year, so maybe a tough winter will follow?

And to think of how elusive this was for me, to the point of menacing, but that’s simply because I couldn’t succeed, making it a quest. I read the ease of access in near disbelief. Hindsight as comedy. Queens is the keeper. Now I know.
