I am Glad to get this. post. I am excited about what is coming next; I can almost feel the excitement in my heart! I have read and reread "Make Ink" and I have started flagging pages to find things more easily, like using agar for cloth. But, when we get excited about our inks and want to share pictures and get feedback and suggestions, we can't expect you to have unlimited time to respond.
I especially love the foraging part of making ink. I am currently experimenting with lichens and mushroom for all kinds of pigment extraction. When my husband and I were in western Oklahoma over Christmas and went up Mount Scott, I resisted collecting some amazing yellow lichen. I kept thinking about it UNTIL we were in MA earlier this month visiting where we used to live. While we were there, we stopped by our older daughter's gravesite to say hi and behold her gravestone was covered with yellow lichen, the only we saw as we looked around. I collected it from the backside and it was so easy to remove, it was like it had not been there long. I wrapped it carefully in some paper from a pocket and brought it home. It still sits waiting for me to turn it to ink. I would love to post the picture, when I make it, and other lichen ink pictures. Will this be possible?
Oh what wonderful thoughts!!! Looking forward to reading more! And thank you for sharing that you’re human and sometimes need a break so that we all can feel we’re not the only ones needing a breather even for labors of love 🙏🏼
I think Dylan is reminding me of the “All One” soap guy, Dr Bronner, I don’t want to send you down a new rabbit hole but there is a good documentary about him - take the time to explore, reflect, mull over! Well just be here when you’re ready-
There is absolutely no need to apologize for taking time to honor the power of words and ideas. All things in due time. Looking forward to what comes ✨
what a teaser for your next the colour. it was a pigment celebratory week, right? i pigmented raw flax, some with caroline ross's spoils red and some with maiwa indigo ... with unexpected results. don't tell me these things are dead or inanimate or whatever, they're moody forsure.
A weekly newsletter is a huge commitment. I say never worry. This is more timely anyway!
I’ve always viewed the body as a container for the spirit and found the boundary of it to be quite odd and disconcerting.
Kind of like ink in a glass jar I guess.
I look forward to more, meanwhile I will ponder what the plant said to the sun.
I’m so intrigued so take your time….
The ultimate reverence: ‘weirdness and the beauty of his work but also because talking to Dylan felt like a sort of course of education? of medicine?’
This is why this newsletter is so good. All the weirdness is comforting. The education is our medicine.
Thanks for all of it. This week I’m bringing the warm + cool colours together...

You are just making us more excited to read more when you are ready. Take a breath!!!!
Lovely, Jason. You’re putting your energies in exactly the right place.
Victoria BC’s cherry blossoms where I am visiting are white puff balls on big old trees, best against a blue sky when it comes—my colour this week.
